where strategic vision meets global design inspiration

Posted on June 5th , 2025

In an industry shaped by constant innovation, shifting consumer expectations, and the rise of sustainable and emotional design, Dourdin Decorative Solutions continues to assert its unique voice. With over six decades of expertise in automotive decorative applications, our mission today is as much about honouring our heritage as it is about shaping the design language of tomorrow.

A Legacy of Innovation

Founded in 1958 by André Dourdin, a lithographer and painter, Dourdin Decorative Solutions began as a printmaking enterprise, specialising in the reproduction of artworks. This artistic foundation laid the groundwork for a company that values precision, aesthetics, and craftsmanship.

By 1968, Dourdin had evolved into a first-tier supplier for the automotive industry, marking its entry into the realm of technical and decorative solutions for vehicles.
The subsequent decades saw significant milestones:

  • 1970: Introduction of adhesive film production lines for PVC, PU, and laminated films.
  • 1990: Establishment of DOURECA in Portugal.
  • 1991: Creation of DURDEN in Turkey.
  • 1997-1999: Expansion into injection moulding, chroming, and metal stamping.
  • 2004: Launch of operations in Romania.
  • 2022 : Painting line in Turkey
  • 2023 Painting line in Portugal
  • 2025 Chrome = 100% green chrome in Portugal

Today, the Dourdin Group boasts a workforce of nearly 1000 employees across several production sites globally, encompassing over 32,000 m² of covered surfaces. With three Design and Research & Development centres, everyday we innovate and adapt to the evolving demands of the mobility sector.

Strategic Design Vision

At Dourdin, design transcends mere aesthetics; it is a strategic tool that aligns with our clients’ visions and the broader trends shaping the future of mobility. Our approach is rooted in a deep understanding of materials, processes, and the emotional resonance of design.

Understanding Client Strategies

We begin by immersing ourselves in our clients’ strategic objectives. By comprehending their brand values, target markets, and future aspirations, we tailor our design solutions to align seamlessly with their goals. This collaborative approach ensures that our decorative solutions not only enhance the visual appeal of vehicles but also reinforce brand identity and customer engagement.

Inspiration from Global Trends

Our design teams actively engage with international design fairs and events to stay abreast of emerging
trends and innovations. In early 2025, our teams from France and Romania attended several key events:

  • Maison & Objet, Paris: this event provided insights into interior design, material innovation, and sensory experiences, highlighting a focus on emotional sustainability and materials that tell a story.

These experiences feed our design philosophy, allowing us to anticipate and integrate global trends into our solutions.

From Concept to Realisation

Our design process involves creating conceptual universes—abstract, creative worlds built from mood boards, objects, books, and unconventional materials. These universes serve as springboards for innovation, enabling us and our clients to explore new ideas and directions.
We then translate these concepts into tangible outcomes using our array of technologies, including plastic injection, electrolytic chroming, painting, metal stamping, printing, adhesive films, assembly, and lacquering. Each solution is tailor-made, drawing from the conceptual universe and adapted to the technical, aesthetic, and functional needs of our partners.

Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation

Dourdin is dedicated to developing ecological and sustainable solutions for the vehicles of the future.
Our initiatives include:

  • Carbon Neutrality: Implementing energy-efficient processes and investing in renewable energy
sources to reduce our carbon footprint.
  • Innovative Materials: Developing antibacterial surfaces, as well as chrome-free processes
compliant with REACH regulations and a lower carbon footprint.
  • Technological Partnerships: Collaborating with customers, suppliers, and universities to accelerate
the development of intelligent and sustainable decorative solutions.

Looking Ahead

As we navigate the evolving landscape of mobility and design, Dourdin Decorative Solutions remains committed to being a strategic partner for our clients. Rooted in a rich heritage, guided by global trends, and fuelled by innovation, our integrated approach enables us to craft decorative solutions that are both visually refined and strategically aligned with our clients’ ambitions.

For clients interested in a more detailed presentation of our current design directions, including visuals,
